Carrying The Spices
Music and Lyrics by Roger Linder
Women
What do we do now, since our Lord has died?
What do we do now, after we have cried?
What do we do now, when our tears have dried?
What do we do now, who will be our guide?

We are purchasing the spices
Purchasing the spices
To preserve the body of our Lord

We are pur-chas-ing the spices
Purchasing the spices
To honor the life of our Lord

What do we do now, since we’ve bought the spice?
What do we do now, will it still suffice?
What do we do now, since he paid the price?
What do we do now, is he in Paradise?

We are pre-par-ing the spices
Preparing the spices
To preserve the body of our Lord

We are preparing the spices
Preparing the spices
To honor the life of our Lord

What will we do now that the day has dawned?
What will we do now, how can we respond?
What will we do now, in the days beyond?
What will we do now, for him we have a bond?

We are carrying the spices
Carrying the spices
To preserve the body of our lord

We are carrying the spices
Carrying the spices
To honor the life of our lord

Scriptural basis - Luke 23:55-24:1 & Mark 16:1

Luke 23:55-24:1 The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.

“On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.”

“When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus’ body.” (From Mark 16:1)
